Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, created by Bill Gates and Melinda (the Microsoft founder) was the principal beneficiary. This foundation focused on global health and education. Bill and Buffett had been friends since the 1990s. The three Buffett children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation (named after his wife) were among the foundations that were the recipients of donations. They were focused on women's reproductive rights, provided scholarships for college students, and also several other charities. In the year 2010 Buffett as well as the Gateses came up with the Giving Pledge, an invitation for wealthy individuals to contribute the majority of their fortune to charities.
